Congressman Smith Investigates Abuses of Power by President and His Administration
Obama's Actions undermine the Constitution, the Economy and the Nation's Citizenry
House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith today (9/12) led a full committee hearing on the Obama administration’s abuses of power and the effect on our Constitution and economy.
Transgressions brought to light included:
Ignoring immigration laws and enacting mass amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants.
Violating the Constitution's balance of powers provision by making recess appointments when the Senate was not in recess.
Assaulting the economy with arbitrary regulations that burden businesses and stifle job creation.
Contempt for Congress's oversight authority by stonewalling investigations into Operation Fast & Furious, the Administration's bungled gun-tracking program likely involved in the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent.
Chairman Smith:
"It is easy to think of disputes about the President's power as abstract questions of constitutional theory, unimportant to anyone but law professors and DC insiders. But when the Administration repeatedly ignores constitutional and legal limits on the President’s power, it undermines the rule of law with very real consequences.
"The Obama administration's continued abuse of authority creates uncertainty that undermines America’s job creators and businesses.
"Just because you don’t like a law, doesn't mean you can ignore it. Many have gone to jail for displaying just this sort of ignorance."
